21 Dec MHScot partners with Apex Hotels
MHScot Workplace Wellbeing C.I.C. and Apex Hotels Edinburgh are tackling mental health in the workplace together, through mutual support in delivering the Scottish Mental Health First Aid courses.
Apex Hotels are providing their superb training room in Edinburgh’s Grassmarket as a course venue in exchange for having their staff take up places on the open courses run by MHScot. This collaboration provides a great space for conducting the courses and ensures that Apex Hotels’ staff are trained on-site in Mental Health First Aid.
Working together benefits both organisations as well as course participants from the wider community. “Being able to run courses in these lovely premises in the Grassmarket ensures that participants from far and wide have easy transport access to the course and can enjoy being in the glorious heart of Edinburgh while learning great new skills.” says Catherine Eadie, director of MHScot.
Jennifer Matheson, HR Officer of Apex Hotels, attended one of MHScot’s open courses as an individual in September 2017 and was so enthused by the learnings that she approached her principals with the idea of having key Apex staff trained as certified Mental Health First Aiders. “I felt the training was so important and helpful that I wanted as many of our staff as possible to have this training opportunity and as a result, be confident in supporting those around them” said Jennifer.” We aim to create a healthier workplace through understanding and awareness of mental health issues and so collaborating with MHScot is a win-win situation”.
Over half of the places on the courses are open to the general public. Bookings for these open courses or enquiries for in-house training can be made by visiting our Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid page.
